Logo Suggestion Edit
Instead of the default wikia logo we should have one of our own. Here is a stab at one ZenMondo 14:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC) Agree. It's nice. Good work.--Jim in Georgia Talk Contribs 17:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Anathem Wiki has a lot of stubs; that's not a criticism.
The problem is that many of the stubs, on their own, probably will never -- can never -- be expanded because there simply isn't anything else to say. An example would be Fraa; the page explains what a fraa is. There is little, if anything, more we could do. We could list links to every fraa, dead or alive, named in the book, but the system would probably still report a stub.
I suggest that we could benefit from creating a new page entitled "Positions in a concent." There may be a better title. Each position (fraa, suur, fid, etc) could be added to the page as a level two headline. Links could still be made. [[Positions in a concent#Fraa]] is as good an example as I can think of.
- Agreed. What also seems to be happening is a lot of creation of pages that are really glossary entries rather than articles. While each wiki can have its own rules, the general principle is to try not to be dictionaries. Perhaps the unusual terms of Anathem require bending that rule. However, one thing we should avoid is using Anathem terms just for the fun of it. The wiki is here to help readers understand the book, and writing it in unfamiliar vocabulary, even with a link, is not good for that. So you should really say "technology" and not bother with praxis or "car" instead of "mobe." As for positions like Fraas and Suurs, I agree a page on the avout is fine, and perhaps a category of avout, linking them all together.
- Now, sometimes you may find you do want to write an article about a simple term. For example, an article on praxis could discuss the different types of technology in the book. It should not exist just to tell you that praxis is NS's word for tech in the book. --Bradtem 07:45, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I think we can also use redirects and categories here... For instance we could have a page for Fraa that is just a redirect to "Position in a Concent" but have that page be in the category "Orth Dictionary" or something similar. Then the category page would act as a reference for all the made up words. I think having a central list for quick reference is good, but I agree that having a page that explains Fraa is a male avout and Suur is a female avout is wasteful.

we have a lot of cruft in the exisiting pages, especially redirects that stem from people not knowing how to label their links differently than the page title (e.g. Concent of Saunt Edhar vs. Concent at Saunt Edhar) or simple misspellings (e.g. Erasmas vs. Erasmus). I've tried contacting Tomben, who is the only admin, but given his inactivity for years and the fact that even his personal homepage seems deserted, I do not expect an answer. In that case we ought to discuss the necessary steps to adopt this wikia. Please chime in with your thoughts.
- Having just started to edit this wikia, I agree with your motion for adoption. BoltChord (talk) 01:00, January 4, 2015 (UTC)
- I am going to move ahead and try to adopt this wiki. I hope that is alright by everyone! BoltChord (talk) 20:37, January 19, 2015 (UTC)
New admin Edit
Hello! I'm User:BoltChord and I have been granted admin rights today. Since this wiki is relatively low on editors these days, it does not mean much; still, I will be around to help with any requests or issues that require an administrative touch.
