The following are the titles and position found within a concent.

[edit] Fid
A junior member of a given math, and a student working under the direction of a senior Avout. After ten years, a successful fid will join an order, during the aut of Eliger.
The term is used with both male and female students.
At the beginning of Anathem, Erasmas, Arsibald, Ala, Jesry, Lio and Tulia are Decenarian fids at the Concent of Saunt Edhar.
Fids are parallels to monastic novices. The word suggests "faithful" (via Latin) and humorously rhymes with "kid."

Title given by Fids to their tutor, who is either a Fraa or Suur. Equivalent to the monastic Novice Master.
[edit] Fraa
The honorific address for a male avout. This is an obvious derivation of the Latin 'Fra' (brother).
[edit] Suur
The honorific address for a female avout. This has no equivalent in Latin, but is a homonym of the French word 'soeur' (sister).
[edit] Hierarchs
Senior avout may take administrative positions, forgoing full devotion to Theorics. These include the Primate, who leads a math, and a staff of Wardens.
[edit] Warden Fendant
An office devoted to defense of the Math from Saecular dangers.
[edit] Warden Regulant
An office devoted to enforcing the Discipline, including punishing Avout who break it with punishments all the way up to Anathem.
