Examples of PraxisEdit
Neal Stephenson on TechnologyEdit
In a reading from Anathem at Berkeley, CA on September 10th, 2008, Neal Stephenson made reference to an unknown source's definition of technology. An advancement ceases to be considered technology when it meets the following conditions:
- It has been around longer than you
- It works well
He used an example of the button on his shirt as a technology for holding his shirt closed. It is no longer considered technology since it has been around for a very long time and it works well.
By this definition a jeejah is still considered praxis. It can be assumed that jeejahs have been around for a very long time, so they meet the first condition. However, they do not yet "work well" since the mechanism used to indicate an incoming communication is such an intrusion.
