Saunt Cartas is a figure of ancient Arbre history credited with founding the first maths and starting Mathic Society. She is mentioned several times during the novel Anathem in terms of "rolling over in her chalcedony coffin" whenever Fraa Erasmas or some other avout shows little or no hesitation in breaking the Discipline.
